Although I do like my blog to concentrate on writing, I have a heart for Africa and the plight of the poor. This week I decided to share an article I discovered recently which depicted the world in 8 different maps, touching on vegetation, slavery, economic wealth, internet usage and power outage. All were, in their own way, revealing when you come to look at Africa in particular. It has such a long way to go before it can compete with the ‘developed’ world.
As last Saturday was World Water Day, when a focus was put on the shortage of healthy sanitation and drinking water across the globe, I’ve just picked out the map on water shortages.

Charities such as Water Aid or Toilet Twinning are making efforts to ensure everyone on the globe has access to safe drinking water. Every day, as we switch on the tap and let water gush out, or flush the toilet and let the sewage system do its work, or hastily put another wash in the machine, we should be so grateful for the life-giving water we take for granted. Every minute of every day lives are lost due to a water related disease.
But this is only one aspect of Africa’s problems: why not take a look at the One site, and see for yourself why the continent needs our ongoing support.
